The German Armed Forces SF14z periscopes were designed for stationary users - observers and artillery officers. Usually, the periscopes were issued with tripod, carrying case and other accessories. Although originally designed for observers and artillery commanders, these periscopes also saw limited use by other stationary personnel. In addition, these periscopes were used for half-track vehicles, command vehicles and Panzers as powerful observation equipment.
The Richtkreis 31 (Rk 31) aiming scope was developed for Artillery units. It was used for measuring horizontal and vertical angles. The scope was an important instrument for initially sighting guns of all sizes prior to firing. It was not uncommon to be used for MG34 and MG42 firing indirectly from the MG lafette. It also was used with mortars and other heavy artillery. In addition, the Rk 31 shares the same tripod and support head as the SF 14z periscopes.
This authentic 106 piece kit with photo-etched parts consists of the SF 14z periscope, SF 14z carrying case, RK 31 aiming, scope support head, tripod, jig for assembling tripod, two figures and accessories. The modeler can choose and build different, interesting configurations of the scope. The SF 14z periscope can be built with or without the sun hood. In addition, it can be assembled three different ways depending on range/distance it was used.
Four different length of tripod legs are provided to assemble desired heights of tripods with different combinations of leg. Due to dedicated tripod legs, Tristar included a Jig to help tripod construction in different heights. The modeler can assemble various height of tripod by using this jig. This kit also includes periscope carrying boxes and tree mounts. The carrying box can store the periscope, sun hoods and other accessories.
