In June 1941, at the time of the Barbarossa operation, Panzer Gruppe 1 Kleist (from the name of the chief Generaloberst von Kleist) constitutes the spearhead of the "Southern" group of armies. Made up of five armored divisions, three motorized divisions and four divisions of infantry with which later on will be associated the Hungarian, Italian and Slovak units, this frightening deterrent force will play a determining part in the conquest of the Ukraine. After having brushed a rapid historical of Panzer Gruppe and having introduced various divisions composing it, this work describes the combat carried out by the units of Generaloberst von Kleist from June to December 1941. Battles surrounding Ouman and Kiev, conquest of the loop of Dniepr and battles of Rostov.

The text is peppered with many testimonies which remind us of the terrible combat carried out by the tank crew members of Panzer Gruppe, is illustrated with approximately 350 photos that were mostly previously unpublished. These photos that came from the files of the propaganda company for the Panzer Gruppe show us the armored division in action. Organization charts as well as biographies of the principal chiefs of Panzer Gruppe supplement this album presenting one of the most important armored formations of the war.
