Item No. EH-067
So far, no one has ever dedicated a book specifically to the engagement of the American gliders during the landing in Normandy on the 6th of June 1944. Henceforth, with "D-Day Gliders," this lack is filled.
The first part of this book recalls the history of the gliders and their development within the American army following the staggering successes of the German in 1940. Everything is precisely described: the creation of the piloting schools, the different steps of the training for the future pilots, their intensive tutoring (flying/ground), without forgetting conceiving and manufacturing gliders.
In a second part, the book relates the D Day actions. Each assignment is accurately studied and various testimonies illustrate what were the first hours of the Landing. Carrying men and equipment of the 82nd and 101st Airborne, the pilots contributed in a large degree to the successes of the aero-ported troops in Normandy. This book particularly dedicated to these pilots is largely illustrated with genuine photos and documents.
Hard cover, 8 1/2" x 11 1/2", 144 pages, about 250 photos and documents, French/English text
